OH MAN! So, because of not having a TV and generally wreaking havoc and being irresponsible, I'm always the last to pick up on things related to popular culture (aka stuff everyone else knows and I find out 3 months later). I still love to ask people what time it is and break out into the PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME dance.

Just recently I found out the geniuses behind that sparkling gem of musicality created an almost identical song called "Ice Cream and Cake" that became popular through rather clever cheezy stop motion commercials by Baskin Robbins. I am particularly fond of the Halloween version.

Apparently, such was the popularity of these commercials that Baskin Robbins threw down their frosty gauntlet and had an Ice Cream and Cake DANCE OFF

The results were hilarious, awkward adorably weird and surprisingly skilled

UGH! starting to feel an icky tickle in the back of my throat, which is just straight up BUNK. Those of you who know me well probably remember that this often happens to me before shows, but usually it's the result of something fun, like hot makeouts and crazy drunken adventures. This shit right now? Just out of nowhere lameness! I feel like the universe is making me pay for the awesomeness of the last month with a big fat ladle full of SUCK.

So shows! It's been a fantastic time for my band. We've been travelling out of town with increasing frequency and I've found that rather than being overwhelmed, I'm rather well suited to life on the road. I like the bizarre challenges that arise from showing up at random venue X and having to Macguyver shit together and making new friends and meeting old internet friends for the first time in real life and crazy late night diner visits with ex-cons who literally jump out of your car and roll into the bushes and out of sight when they spot cop cars (this ACTUALLY happened to us in CT)

Devil's Night and Halloween were incredible, and I'd do a writeup, but Crime already DID and he's a lot more eloquent then me! So go check it out and find out about that show and the final demise of Crime's keyboard. O_O

I'm baaack!
Sorry for the lack of posts, my heads been swirling with a sudden influx of shows, I'll be in a couple of different states for the next month, starting with Connecticut tonight! Then in November I've got super special news for my lovelies I've missed so much on the west coast. Anyway, you can check out the details for tonight's show at www.hateinthebox.com if you are in CT. Busy packing up costumes and craziness for tonight, really looking forward to our evil school theme. Anyway, something really funny to share with you. Despite how many shows I play I always get SUPER NERVOUS beforehand. Do any of you still get nervous doing stuff that you've done a million times before? Usually before the show I'm a ball of energy zipping this way and that and can't sit still for more than 10 minutes at a time! What up with that?

What with my circus themed CD release party coming up on August 5th, I thought it'd be a good time to post about my acrobalance progress!

You'll remember back in this post I was talking about how me and my guitarist Teddy went to circus school and took acrobatics classes together. When we did our last band photoshoot we actually got to take some pictures so you can see our progress! Forgive the blurriness in some of them, it was hard for the photographer to get us while we transitioning between the moves! COOLEST shots are at the end, this is a sequence of poses that we slowly transition into each other!

So when last you left your intrepid heroine we had gotten called in to do a last minute show with Das Ich for the Stimulate party. We kicked ass and it was fun hanging out with the guys from Das Ich. It's always great when bands turn out to be not only great musicians, but fun people too. We're pretty lucky in that we usually book shows with great acts and have made some amazing friends that way. My surprise of the night was that my little brother came out to show his support. It was my first time having a family member at a show and I was totally nervous for the first song or two. It meant a lot to have him there.

Aside from that, I moved Hate in the Box headquarters which was a truly HELLISH and annoying experience, not the least reason being that I have intense allergies to dust, and when you move you stir up ancient reservoirs of that shit that you never knew existed and it wrecked my respiratory system badly, to the point where even my inhaler and massive doses of claritin just barely made it so I could breathe.

In other news, we did an awesome photoshoot and I put up a bunch of pictures on the myspace page and the vampirefreaks page if you prefer that. I figured since they're up there I don't need to post them here, but if you want I can repost them either here on my journal or on the hate in the Box LJ community. Tell me which you prefer guys!

So long story short, we got booked for an awesome show at the Highline ballroom with the only catch being that it's short notice... as in this coming Friday, the 22nd! So we poured all of our effort out of studio land and back into performing and practice and played the whole set today over and over and kicked some serious ass. We have a BUNCH of surprises for the show and songs we've never played live and silly antics. I'm so, SO excited. Not only that but for those of you who live in faraway land, you can still hear the show because it's going to be broadcast live over the internet at WFKU radio. AW YEAH.

So I finished up a new painting, just a scant 5 days away from the group art show I'm going to be in here in NY. In between two solid days of boozing, painting and caffeine soaked madness, I did manage to take some pictures as I took each step in creating the painting from sketching to the actual finished awesomeness. So I was thinking of posting it here to share with you all, but I'm not sure you all really want to be exposed to the caffeine fueled meanderings of my artistic process.

Been getting back into acrobalance and busting my ass all over the place. Working out and stretching every possible chance I can get. I think it would be fun to do a little bit of acrobatics as part of a show or photo shoot since me and my guitarist Teddy Krueger are getting pretty good at it. To those of you who don't know what acrobalance is, it's balancing on people or objects and I've been studying it at my circus school and at home for like a year or so.

I'm still working on my hand balancing stuff but I'm pretty good at shoulder balances like this:

oh shit! Guess I gotta get back to playing shows again. Can't fucking wait. I'll probably be posting little peeks at the album art as it progresses.

Feeling rather accomplished, I just finished packing up the prize for our last street team contest, a huge custom Easter Basket, for it's journey way the fuck out to AUSTRALIA of all places. I hope she fuckin' loves it, cuz it took forever to make and if ya'll wanna see it, then comment and let me know, I took photos during each stage of making it, with the thought of putting up a "how to make your own Evil Easter Basket" tutorial type thing. Good idea/Bad idea?

So someone recently commented saying that our image was too erratic to be marketable and that even though they thought our songs were good that they wouldn't be able to take us seriously if we didn't look "serious"

My question to you is when did Rock music ever become serious? If I wanted to be serious I'd be in a fucking suit or behind a desk. Unfortunately I was born with a proclivity for neon hair, loud music and bunny suits and that doesn't fit well in an office environment.

When it comes to writing kickass songs, I'm dead serious. When it comes to spending hours designing costumes and coming up with cool show ideas and props? Serious as a heart attack.

When it comes to being onstage... it's play time. It's an emotional rollercoaster. It's moshing and headbanging and losing yourself in the music. It's cupcakes flying as I try to serve 'em up to as many people as I can before the next song. It's FUN.

Remember FUN? Nothing serious about it. We are there to help you forget the bullshit. We are there to ROCK. We are not serious and we never will be. I wear a frickin' bunny suit people. And I do it with love. And if people can't understand that then I feel sorry for them because they are missing the point.

ok, so for those of you wondering, I have not fallen off the earth. I simply made a promise to myself to finish our album or die trying. Part of the motivation was that I also went on a booze-fast until the songs were done. Because I have found I cannot function in party environment without booze, I was that much more motivated to stay home and record. The day before yesterday we handed the tracks over to the guy mixing the album. That shit is almost DONE. It feels kind of unreal to think about. So tonight was my first day in a couple of weeks of finally letting loose and now I'm hammered with the internet at my disposal.
